Pininfarina Battista's nod to F1's first-ever champion Nino Farina

Automobili Pininfarina's latest stroke of genius is quite the head-turner. Meet the Battista Edizione Nino Farina, a limited edition of the all-electric hypercar paying tribute to Antonio "Nino" Farina, the first-ever F1 World Champion. If you have a fondness for both motoring history and cutting-edge technology - this one’s for you.

If you're raising an eyebrow wondering who this Nino character is, here's a quick history lesson. Nino Farina, Battista 'Pinin' Farina's nephew, clinched the world's inaugural Formula 1 championship back in 1950, a feat that immortalized him in the annals of motorsports. Of course, the season was shorter then, but the fact remains that Nino, in the racing circles, is akin to Armstrong on the moon.

The Battista Edizione Nino Farina aims to encapsulate this historical significance with a fresh coat of paint and a boatload of intricate details. With only five units planned for production, it appears Pininfarina is channeling its inner elitist, but then, when you're playing in the hypercar league, it's all about exclusivity, isn't it?

Each car features a Rosso Nino finish with Bianco Sestriere and Iconica Blu highlights and a special number '01' - a tribute to Nino's place in F1 history. The unique aesthetic extends to details like the engraved headlights finished in black-anodized brushed aluminum, Nino Farina's signature etched on the side wing, and the Glorioso alloy wheels that shine in satin gold.

Aesthetics aside, the Battista Edizione Nino Farina also includes the Furiosa Pack and a Carbon Accent Package. The package lends an aggressive edge to the car's look with a carbon fiber front splitter, side blades, and rear diffuser, all tastefully punctuated with a Bianco Sestriere pinstripe.

The interior continues the opulence with a two-tone scheme, a black Alcantara seat for the driver, and a beige and black Alcantara for the lucky passenger. No detail is spared - "Nino Farina" is elegantly embroidered into the headrests, and the driver's seat features a gold laurel wreath and '01' graphic. Seatbelts? Iconica Blu. Steering wheel? Black Alcantara with exposed carbon fiber bits and a red-anodized aluminum ring marking twelve o'clock.

It seems fitting to mention here that Nino Farina was also the winner of the Goodwood Trophy in 1951, which adds a touch of synchronicity to the fact that the Battista Edizione Nino Farina will debut at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Talk about things coming full circle!

While the price remains under wraps, one can expect it to hover somewhere near the standard Battista's $2.25 million ballpark. Of course, when it comes to the potential clientele of this vehicle, choosing between the Battista, Rimac Nevera, or the upcoming Porsche all-electric hypercar isn't really an issue – we can safely presume these elite motorheads already have their orders placed for all three.

Battista Edizione Nino Farina is a fitting tribute to a legendary figure in motorsport history. It embodies the spirit of Nino, the fearless, audacious F1 champion, and the legacy of Pininfarina, an emblem of Italy's proud automotive tradition. Here's to the first-ever F1 World Champion, Giuseppe Antonio "Nino" Farina.
