Rivian owners can now access Tesla's Superchargers in North America

Vlad, 19 March 2024

As all of its competitors eventually did, Rivian announced back in June of last year that it made a deal with Tesla to adopt the NACS charging port for its future cars sold in North America, and - also like all of its competitors in the US - that meant Rivian owners would get access to Tesla's 15,000-strong Supercharger network across North America.

This is now live. If you have a Rivian R1S or R1T, you can now charge at any Supercharger in North America. You will, of course, need an adapter. Rivian will ship these to owners of its cars starting in April.

Rivian will integrate Tesla' Superchargers into its navigation system so they will show up when you plan trips, with charger speeds and availability information listed. Rivian owners will also be able to "plug and charge" at Superchargers, with automatic billing.

Oh and, just as announced already, Rivian will open up its own charging network, the Rivian Adventure Network, to EVs by other makers "later this year". This comprises 424 fast chargers in 70 locations across 22 states in the US.

Rivian also promises to add charging sites to its network "in mature EV markets where more capacity is needed, in charging deserts where access is extremely limited, and in flagship charging destinations near places like Yosemite and Yellowstone National Parks".
