Tesla brings several upgrades to the Chinese Model 3
Instead of the Roadster, which was once again postponed, Tesla announced a handful of neat upgrades to the Model 3 in China today. It got a bigger screen, V2L and new interior color option.
Tesla published a few marketing images to promote the new Model 3 features, starting with the central infotainment display. Now, the vehicle comes with a 16-inch display with higher resolution and refresh rate, although the company didn't specify either of those.
The V2L functionality supports up to 2.2 kW of AC power export, but owners need to buy an additional adapter.
And as for the interior, customers can now go for the "premium" gray interior paired with a black fabric headliner.
Interestingly, Tesla added the 16-inch screen and the gray interior to its Model Y in the US back in January, so we have every reason to believe that the upgrades will hit the US market as well.
The cut-throat competition in China forced Tesla to improve in order to stay competitive.
Tesla also advertised a new starting price of RMB 222,500 (~$33,000), but that's accounting for the RMB 5,000 discount and the RMB 8,000 insurance subsidy if customers order by October 31. Tesla also gives RMB 8,000 paint credit and a choice of three charging perks. Otherwise, the starting price remains the same - RMB 235,500 (~$35,100) for the base RWD version.
