Elon Musk tries to cool hype machine ahead of Cybertruck launch

Max McDee, 19 October 2023

The Tesla Cybertruck deliveries will start on November 30 and in an unusual development CEO Elon Musk tried to cool down enthusiasm.

The executive known for his love of deadlines and the whooshing sound they make as they fly by had some sobering remarks about the upcoming vehicle. During the Q3 earnings call, he urged to "temper expectations." While Musk and his team envision producing a quarter of a million Cybertrucks annually eventually at this point even they seem to have realized it might take a while to get there. Not great news for the over a million people eagerly waiting, reservation confirmations in hand.

Musk went on to say “We dug our own grave with the Cybertruck.” He firmly believes this is a unique product, but at this point he also admitted Tesla is finding it challenging to produce at volume and make prosperous. Now that might be an indication of more bad news on the horizon.

The Cybertruck official pricing will only be revealed once deliveries start, which is kinda puzzling. How much did the people who will take the first deliveries pay for it? Unless they aren't just your average customers and the whole delivery event is merely a spectacle to buy some more time.

And if Elon Musk is warning that Tesla is struggling to make money on the Cybertruck could we see pricing far above the $39,900 promised in 2019? We'll get a clearer picture come November 30. Hopefully.

Comparing a grifter like Elon Musk to Einstein or Nikola Tesla is a bad joke.
