Tesla denies Cybertruck sales starting in China on January 1
There have been a lot of rumors in China recently about the Tesla Cybertruck's availability over there, with most pointing to it going on sale on January 1. New rumors on the matter have surfaced over the past few days, forcing Tesla to once again issue a denial.
The company says it does not plan to start sales of the Cybertruck in China on January 1, Chinese media reports. Tesla China called this fake news, but do keep in mind that the denial refers specifically to the January 1 date.
Cybertruck listed on Tesla China's websiteSo, Tesla could in theory start sales on January 2, or at any point after that. Tesla's Chinese website already has the Cybertruck listed, with three versions - RWD, AWD, and Cyberbeast - so a launch over there is clearly imminent, it just won't happen on the first day of the new year.
The Cybertruck received its automobile energy consumption label from Chinese authorities on December 11, a prerequisite step for sales starting in the country. The Cybertruck was initially announced in 2019 and finally went on sale in late November last year. Tesla toured the truck in several Chinese cities this past January.
