Tesla will open an R&D center in Berlin, Germany

Tesla is going to open a "European development center" in Berlin, Germany, next year. Up to 250 engineers and technicians will work there on development of new models, batteries, and charging infrastructure.

The move was announced by Lars Moravy, Tesla's Vice President and Chief Developer, at a press conference. The exact location of the future R&D center hasn't been revealed by the company, but it is going to use a currently empty factory near its Gigafactory in Berlin.

Initially, 130 engineers will occupy the center, having previously worked in other, smaller locations. Tesla wants to invest a high double-digit million euro amount into the R&D center.

The development center project was first talked about when Tesla announced the construction of the Gigafactory Berlin in November 2019, and now the company is finally close to actually making it a reality.
