2024 Polestar 2 brings improved efficiency, higher prices

If you're in the good old US of A, and are in the market for an electric vehicle, then you've most likely heard all about the updated and much-improved 2024 Polestar 2. We've now got the EPA numbers for it and things are indeed improved.

First off, let's talk about the single-motor version. This bad boy now offers a range of up to 320 miles, thanks to a new 82-kilowatt-hour battery and a 220-kilowatt electric motor. That's a huge jump from last year's 270 miles.

Part of the reason is the single-motor version also switched from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive. The move not only boosts range but also comes with better performance? Well, it can now go from 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds, down from 7 seconds.

Now, if you're looking for something with a bit more oomph, the dual-motor version might catch your eye. It boasts a new powertrain with a power output of up to 310 kW, and a 0-60 mph time of 4.3 seconds. But here's the kicker: the battery pack is still the same 78-kWh from last year. The range is 276 miles, a modest increase of 16 miles from last year.

For those who want to go all out, there's the Performance Pack option. It comes with a 335-kW powertrain and can go from 0-60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. But here's the bad news: its range is actually lower than before, at 247 miles.

Now let's talk money. The entry-level version starts at $49,900, which is $1,500 more than last year. The dual-motor version starts at $55,300, a $3,400 increase. And the Performance configuration? A whopping $63,000, up $5,600 from last year.

So, is the 2024 Polestar 2 worth it? If you're looking for improved range and don't mind the price hike, the single-motor version seems like a decent deal. But if you're eyeing the dual-motor or Performance configurations, you might want to think twice. You're paying more for marginal improvements, and in the case of the Performance Pack, even losing some range.

The Polestar 2 doesn't qualify for the $7,500 federal tax credit because it's an imported model, but you might get some incentives through leasing.
