Updated Genesis GV70 gets a Tesla NACS connector and bigger battery

The Genesis Electrified GV70 has always been a bit of a dark horse in the electric SUV race. Stylish, powerful, and comfortable, it somehow hasn't quite captured the spotlight like some of its Hyundai Motor Group siblings. But with the release of the 2026 model, Genesis hopes that embracing Tesla's charging technology will turn its fortunes around.

One of the most significant updates to the 2026 Electrified GV70 is the addition of a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port. This means drivers can now conveniently charge their vehicles at Tesla Supercharger stations without needing an adapter. While the previous model had a charging port at the front, it relied on the Combined Charging System (CCS) standard. Genesis hasn't abandoned CCS entirely, though. The 2026 Electrified GV70 will include an adapter for CCS DC fast chargers, making sure drivers can still access the vast network of over 36,000 charging stations across the United States.

Genesis has also added a motorized charging port door, replacing the previous manual release, and added an integrated heating element to prevent ice buildup in cold weather. Improved lighting around the port should make finding and using it at night an easy task.

The 2026 Electrified GV70 comes with a larger 84 kWh battery, replacing the previous 77.4 kWh unit. While official range figures are not yet available, this upgrade is bound to extend the SUV's driving distance significantly. The dual-motor powertrain stays the same, delivering 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque.

The exterior of the Electrified GV70 has also received a refresh. The signature G-Matrix Crest Grille has been redesigned, and new multi-lens array (MLA) headlamps give the SUV a sharper look. New 19- and 21-inch wheel designs and a refreshed skid plate add to the vehicle's visual appeal.

Interior of the 2026 Electrified GV70 features a brand-new 27-inch OLED display that seamlessly integrates the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Genesis promises quicker response times and improved voice command capabilities, along with enhanced over-the-air updates.

Production of the 2026 Genesis Electrified GV70 will continue to be a joint effort between South Korea and the United States. The SUV will be manufactured in South Korea, with final assembly taking place at Hyundai Motor Group's plant in Montgomery, Alabama.

Genesis is expected to announce pricing details closer to the launch date in the first half of 2025. The current model starts at $68,300 in the US, and it's anticipated that the refreshed version will fall within a similar price range. Unfortunately for the European customers, the same model starts at nearly $89,000 in Germany, and the price climbs quickly close to $100,000 with a few extra options.
