2024 Volkswagen ID.4 gets improved EPA range rating

Earlier this year, Volkswagen unveiled plans for the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4, boasting an 82-kilowatt-hour battery pack that promised more power and, most importantly, increased driving range. The standout feature of this upcoming model is the introduction of a new rear drive unit rated at a remarkable 210 kilowatts, a significant improvement over the previous 150-kilowatt unit. And the best bit is it doesn't come with a range penalty either.

The recent ratings by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shed light on the key numbers that have kept enthusiasts on the edge of their seats. The ID.4 Pro, ID.4 AWD Pro, and ID.4 AWD Pro S trims were the once tested and we have the official figures. The EPA Combined range for the rear-wheel-drive ID.4 Pro, clocking in at an impressive 291 miles. This represents an increase of 5.8% compared to the previous model. Even the all-wheel-drive variants, with their added power requirements, show improvements, with ratings of 263 miles, an increase of 3.1%. These results underscore the potential of making electric vehicles (EVs) more efficient and extending their range without resorting to higher-capacity batteries.
