Volkswagen unveils the interior of the ID.Unyx 08

Volkswagen showed for the first time the inside of its newest big electric car, the ID.Unyx 08. This SUV is a big deal because it is the first in its specific series to use a very fast charging system. Volkswagen is a German company, but it made this specific model just for drivers in China.

On the outside, the car looks modern but simple. It has narrow lights that point upward and a glowing Volkswagen logo in the middle. The ID.Unyx 08 is a big SUV - it measures 197 inches long and 76.9 inches wide. The distance between the front and back wheels is 119.3 inches - this long wheelbase means there is a lot of room for people sitting in the back. Depending on which version a buyer chooses, the car stands either 65.8 inches or 66.5 inches tall.

Inside, the ID.Unyx 08 looks like a high-tech lounge. The driver sits in a "wraparound" cockpit, and there is a small 10.25-inch screen behind the steering wheel for basic info. Next to it sit two massive 14.96-inch screens connected together. These screens have 2.4K resolution, making the maps and menus look very sharp. Interestingly, Volkswagen brought back real buttons and scroll wheels on the steering wheel, likely because drivers found touch-sensitive pads annoying in older EVs.

Comfort seems to be a top priority for this model. All the seats use soft Nappa leather. If you are the driver, your seat can heat up, cool you down, and even give you a massage. The front passenger has it even better. Their seat can lean back 120 degrees and has an electric leg rest. Volkswagen calls this "big bed" mode, perfect for a nap while the car charges. Even the people in the back get a treat, as their seats can lean back by 10 degrees and they have little folding tables for snacks or tablets.

The new ID.Unyx has a massive panoramic sunroof that covers 1.74 square meters. It is a "smart" roof that can change from clear to foggy with the touch of a button. It has 10 different levels of brightness, so you can let the sun in or block it out if it gets too hot, adding a feeling of extra space to the cabin.

The batteries are made by CATL and come in two sizes: 82.368 kWh and 95.04 kWh. Because the car uses an 800V system, it can charge much faster than older electric cars. On a full charge, the car can travel between 391 miles and 454 miles depending on the battery and motor choice. These numbers come from the Chinese testing cycle, which is quite a bit more generous than tests in other countries.

The basic version of the new SUV has one motor in the back that produces 230 kW, which is about 308 hp. If you want more grip, there is an all-wheel-drive version. This one adds a 140 kW (188 hp) motor to the front and keeps the 230 kW motor in the back.

The ID.Unyx 08 is also quite smart. It uses software and parts from XPeng to help it drive. It has an "L2++" system - it can help steer, brake, and stay in its lane on the highway. It even has a "parking-to-parking" feature that helps the car find a spot and park itself. There is also an AI assistant inside that uses a large language model to talk to the driver and answer questions.

The ID.Unyx 08 is expected to go on sale very soon, giving families in China a new, high-tech option for traveling without using gasoline.
