Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan exceeds delivery target

Max McDee, 31 December 2024

The electric vehicle division of Chinese tech giant Xiaomi, announced the results for its debut model SU7. Surpassing even its revised delivery target, Xiaomi has sold and delivered over 130,000 SU7s in the year of its launch, a significant achievement for a new entrant in the competitive EV market.

The SU7 was unveiled in December 2023, and it began deliveries in April 2024 with three trim levels: Standard, Pro, and Max. Prices range from RMB 215,900 ($29,500) for the Standard to RMB 299,900 ($41,000) for the Max, positioning the SU7 as a competitor to Tesla's Model 3 and other mid-size electric sedans. Deliveries began with the Standard and Max versions, followed by the Pro version in May.

Initially, Xiaomi aimed to deliver 100,000 SU7s in 2024, a goal that was later revised to 120,000 units. Strong demand and successful production ramp-up for the SU7 pushed sales beyond expectations. In November, Xiaomi announced that it had already delivered 100,000 vehicles and set a new target of 130,000 units for the year. This ambitious goal was also achieved ahead of schedule.

Xiaomi EV will soon expand its product lineup with the introduction of the SU7 Ultra, a high-performance version of the sedan, and the YU7, the company's first electric SUV. The SU7 Ultra, priced at RMB 814,900 (just over $111,000), is expected to launch in March 2025, while the YU7 is being readied for a mid-2025 release.

Xiaomi's long-term goal is to become a major player in the global automotive industry. With the SU7's impressive first-year performance, Xiaomi has a strong foundation to build on, and it seems that no goal, however ambitious, remains out of reach for this two-year-old EV manufacturer.
