Renault now accepts €50,000 deposits for the electric Renault 5 Turbo 3E
Renault is bringing back a beloved name from its past with a modern twist. The Renault 5 Turbo 3E, a fully electric "mini-supercar," takes inspiration from the iconic Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 of the 1980s and combines its striking design with impressive power.
Starting today, April 22nd, at 9 am Central European Time, interested buyers can reserve one of the 1,980 numbered models being produced. The reservation process requires a £42,000 deposit and allows customers to arrange an appointment with a local dealer to finalize their reservation. This early commitment secures their place in line when the Renault 5 Turbo 3E becomes available for purchase. Initial reservation holders will have the option to select their car's production number.
The starting price for this exciting electric vehicle is set at an eye-watering £130,400, including VAT. This is only an introductory price specifically for the first 500 customers who make a priority reservation through Renault's dealer network in Europe (including the UK), the Middle East, Japan, and Australia. This price excludes any additional options, accessories, or personalization choices.
Renault is also getting its dealerships on board in the pre-financing of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, mirroring the customers' upfront deposits. This collaborative approach will help fund the final stages of the car's development. In early 2026, reservation holders will be contacted by their chosen dealer to begin the personalization process. Beyond the classic color schemes of the original Renault 5 Turbo models, like the red of the production cars or the black, yellow, and white of the rally-winning version, customers will have access to new "gentleman driver" options. They will even have the opportunity to work directly with Renault designers to create their own unique exterior and interior looks, choosing colors and materials for everything from the seats to the dashboard.
Final configurations and orders will be placed in the first half of 2027, with the reservation deposit being deducted from the final price. The first deliveries of these custom-built electric cars are anticipated in 2027, pending final approval. The Renault 5 Turbo 3E is built on a specially designed aluminum platform that supports its high-performance capabilities and has nothing in common with the production Renault 5. The Turbo 3E measures 160.63 inches long, 79.92 inches wide, and 54.33 inches tall. This combination of a wide stance and a compact length allows it to carve out a new niche as a "mini-supercar."
Powering this EV are two innovative in-wheel electric motors, making it a rear-wheel-drive vehicle. These motors deliver a total output of 540 horsepower and a massive 3,540 lb-ft of torque (at the wheels), providing instant acceleration. Thanks to its lightweight carbon fiber body, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E weighs less than 3,197 lb and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in under 3.5 seconds. It has a 70 kWh battery and an 800-volt electrical system, allowing for DC fast charging at up to 350 kW. This means the battery can charge from 15% to 80% in just 15 minutes, and the car gets a standard WLTP driving range of over 249 miles.
Following the initial reservation period, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E will go on display at Renault's new RNLT stores across major European cities and Riyadh before making an appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2025.
