Audi appoints Gernot Dollner as new CEO

Ivan, 30 June 2023

Audi and VW Group's board decided to appoint Gernot Dollner as CEO starting from September 1 2023 in a move that would see current boss Markus Duesmann step down after about three years at the helm.

Duesmann stepped in as successor to recently convicted Rupert Stadler and had the tough job to navigate Audi through the aftermath of Dieselgate and to steer the company in its efforts in electrification.

Soon-to-be-former CEO Markus Duesmann initiated work on more than 20 new models by the year 2025, more than half of which are EVs. However, his tenure saw critical delays to the PPE platform co-developed with Porsche, as well as lagging behind BMW and Mercedes in the US market. Not least of all, Audi didn't meet its target in the Chinese market.

New CEO Gernot Dollner has been with the VW Group since 1993. He has overseen overall strategy and the general secretariat of the VW Group, has served as head of concept development at Porsche and was at the helm for the Panamera series. He's also reportedly close to current Porsche and VW Group CEO Oliver Blume.
