BMW starts iX1 production in Germany
BMW kicked off production of its iX1 SUV in its Regensburg factory and it's assembled on one of the company's flexible production lines. This means that all BMW iX1 variants are built on the same line - ICE, PHEV and EV.
It's interesting to note that the high-voltage battery used for the iX1 is also being assembled in the Regensburg factory, although the cells themselves are being transported from somewhere else.
The plant started "painting" the batteries back in April 2021 - that's a process in which the aluminum housing of the cells is coated with thick varnish to improve thermal conductivity and robustness overall. And the actual assembly of the batteries began last month.
The iX1 assembly is based on the BMW iFactory principle powered by AI optimizations regarding painting and vehicle assembly. Its goal is to improve manufacturing efficiency by helping out employees during the quality control phase using image recognition algorithms.
As of now, we don't know when the iX1 will hit the streets, but since mass production is already in motion, it can't be long.
