BMW posts impressive EV sales growth amid unfavorable market conditions

The EV market has had a bumpier year than usual, but BMW continues to make gains in various markets around the world. The company showed strong EV growth in the first half of this year and even managed to edge out Tesla in Europe in July this year. And the latest sales report from BMW spanning between January and September 2024 shows a continuation of the positive trend.

The whole BMW group, including Mini and Rolls Royce, made 19.1% more EV sales in the first nine months of 2024 compared to 2023, with 294,054 units sold. Of that, 266,151 vehicles are BMW-branded, representing 22.6% growth for the brand alone. Conversely, Mini saw an even bigger growth - 54.3% with 16,536 EVs delivered. BMW points to the BMW iX1 and BMW i4 as top-performers.

The company highlights its particularly strong demand in Europe, namely Italy, France and the UK. It recorded a healthy 7.6% growth by delivering 577,803 vehicles in total. About 121,844 of those are EVs, representing a 35.8% growth in the region.

The rest of the lineup didn't do so well and BMW Group's total sales declined 4.5% globally compared to last year's 9-month period. That's because of the delivery stops with the Integrated Braking System on some of its cars in the third quarter and declining sales in China. Keep in mind that China is the biggest market for BMW and other renowned European car manufacturers.
