Facelifted Tesla Model 3 arrives in North America
The refreshed Model 3, codenamed "Highland," finally makes its way to North America, bringing an array of updates and improvements. Two months after its debut in China and one after shipments began in Europe the updated version is finally available in North America.
The American customers can now place orders for the revamped Model 3, with deliveries anticipated to kick off this month. Just like its European counterpart, the Model 3 in the United States is available in two powertrain options, keeping things simple for prospective buyers.
Starting at a reasonable $38,990, the base Rear-Wheel Drive Model 3 offers an EPA-estimated range of 272 miles.
For those seeking a longer leash and all-wheel drive capabilities, the Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive Long Range Model 3 is priced at $45,990 and boasts a range of 341 miles.
There's no mention of a Performance trim just yet, but whispers of a Sport or Ludicrous version loom in the air. Clues have been found in the official Tesla parts catalog and the car's software code, sparking speculation about what the future might hold.
Interestingly, leasing options remain the same - starting at the monthly price of $329 as before. However, there’s no word yet whether the facelifted Model 3 qualifies for the coveted $7,500 tax credit when purchased outright. Previously, only the Model 3 Performance was eligible for this tax credit.
The refresh of the Model 3 certainly brings a redesigned face with fog lights and indicators integrated into the main headlight units and new single-piece rear lights, replacing the old split design.
Inside you get LED ambient light strips and a newly added 8-inch display for the rear passengers. Meanwhile, the front 15.4-inch display retains its size but boasts slimmer bezels.
Perhaps one of the most noticeable changes inside is the removal of column-mounted stalks, with steering wheel buttons taking over their functions. This adjustment enhances aesthetics but arguably degrades the driving experience.
Tesla has also improved comfort and ride quality on the new Model 3. The use of acoustic glass throughout the entire glasshouse, along with additional sound-deadening materials, promises a quieter ride. A revised front suspension geometry enhances the Model 3's ride quality, while ventilated front seats are now included as standard.
Tesla's expansion of the refreshed Model 3 isn't limited to the United States. Canadian and Mexican customers can also get their hands on this updated EV, complete with the same features and estimated delivery windows.
