Fisker plans to have 4 models on the market in 4 years
Fisker Ocean is not going to feel lonely for too long, the automaker announced plans to increase its lineup to 4 models. The plans are bold, with the Ocean to be followed by Pear, a new compact EV that Fisker wants to see on the road in 2023. The Ocean has only been unveiled, with first deliveries expected later this year. The car has been received very well by the public, if we were to judge by the tens of thousands of reservations Fisker claims to have received.
Fisker has a partner for manufacturing all the future models, the Ocean will be made in Austria at Magna Steyr factory in Graz. These guys are heavy players - they developed the 4Matic all-wheel drive system for Mercedes, they manufactured all the 4Matic Mercedes E-class models up to 2006 as well as all BMW X3s e83 and Aston Martin Rapide cars.
If that’s not enough then how about Mercedes G class? Graz has been its home since 1979, BMW 5 series is made there as well as BMW Z4, Toyota Supra, Jaguar I-Pace and E-Pace. So Fisker is in a really good company, we can expect high quality and high volumes from the start. Unlike other EV manufacturers, there are no new factories being built, this is outsourcing at its best.
For Pear the automaker partnered with none other than Foxconn. If you are thinking about Apple phones - you’re right. But Foxconn is not just a phone maker, oh no. Foxconn owns the former GM Lordstown factory and that’s where the Pear is going to be built. In Ohio, at the former Lordstown Complex, home to Chevy Impala, Bel Air and Pontiac Firebird to name just the few.
The third model Fisker is describing as “proper British sports car” and it is being developed at Fisker Magic Works, the UK-based engineering and development arm of the company. The only information we have about it is Henrik Fisker’s tweet:
The fourth model is even more enigmatic, in a recent interview with Autocar this is what Fisker had to say about it:
“We have many options, because there are so many EV segments that still have no entries," he said. "If you're looking for a Porsche Boxster-type car, or a minivan, you have very few options.”
Will it be a pickup truck? We’ve heard rumours but Fisker is quiet about the final car in the lineup. We will know soon enough, if the plans of making 1 million cars by 2025 are anything to go by, we’ll see more Fisker models out in public really soon.
The question remains though - can Fisker succeed? Can it become a rival to the likes of Tesla or the established manufacturers? 10 years ago people were still dismissing Tesla, in fact - some people still do. Henrik Fisker has a lot of experience, sure not all of it was success but he picked strong partners, partners with resources and experience.
Thanks to those partnerships Fisker will be able to scale up really quickly, at least past the initial stages of bringing a new brand to the market. Looking at the amazing reception of the Ocean we could see an interesting development in the EV market. Will Fisker join Lucid and Rivian in trying to steal Tesla’s crown? Will they all be beaten by legacy automakers? Interesting times ahead.

I've seen like 3 Karmas in total. Maybe 2 of those were the same one, and I live in a huge city. Its a real unicorn and very pretty from the back.
