Geely's LEVC L380 electric MPV spotted winter testing in China

Geely, the owner of the London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC), has recently unveiled its latest offering, the LEVC L380 electric MPV. This 208.7 inches-long multi-purpose vehicle comes with a 6 or 8-seat layout, and it's been spotted during winter tests in China.

The LEVC L380 features an elongated body, retractable door handles, and distinctive two-tiered headlights. The front sports an air intake with a mm-wave radar.

While the exact location of these winter tests remains undisclosed, it's safe to assume that they took place near Yakeshi City, Inner Mongolia, known as one of China's coldest regions with temperatures plummeting to around minus 86°F. This harsh environment serves as a testing ground for numerous manufacturers looking to assess their vehicles' performance in extreme conditions.

The LEVC L380 will be equipped with ternary NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) batteries, a product of the CATL-Geely joint venture. The entry-level model boasts a 73 kWh battery capacity, while the top-trim version packs a whopping 120 kWh juice pack. With a range of approximately 373 miles on a single charge, this MPV is aiming high. Not to mention, it can add 124 miles of range in just 10 minutes of charging while charging from 10% to 80% will take approximately 30 minutes.

LEVC, a successor to the British London Taxi Company, founded in 1919, has come a long way. In 2012, Geely acquired the company, leading to a shift in focus towards new energy vehicles. Currently, LEVC's model line revolves around a single model called the TX, available in both EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle) and BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) versions.

On December 8, LEVC applied for a sales license in China, initially under the name "Xspace." However, a later update clarified that the official name of this multi-purpose vehicle is L380, a reference to the Airbus A380. The L380 boasts dimensions of 209.3 inches in length, 78.7 inches in width, and 76.4 inches in height, with a wheelbase of 125.4 inches.

Inside, the L380 offers spacious seating for either 6 or 8 passengers. The vehicle is powered by a single electric motor supplied by VREMT (Viridi E-Mobility Technology), a subsidiary of Geely, with an output of 200 kW (268 hp).

In a market where MPVs are hot commodities, the LEVC L380 faces competition from various electric minivans, including Li Mega, Denza D9, Xpeng X9, Maxus Mifa 9, and Zeekr 009. As the EV market in China continues to evolve, the L380 will need to offer something truly special to stand out in this crowded segment.
