Kia teases stunning Stinger successor
Back in the day, the Kia Stinger was arguably the only model in the automaker's lineup that truly captured the fun of a sporty European sedan, complete with engaging, rear-wheel-drive handling. When Kia ended its production in 2023, it left a big gap. Back then, the company promised an electric version would eventually fill that hole, bringing the excitement of high-performance driving back to the brand.
A dramatic teaser video has just arrived, revealing what appears to be the Stinger's successor - a radical electric fastback that hopes to redefine what a performance EV can be. This shadowy preview reveals a vehicle that looks aggressive and ready for the track. The car's identity is still officially a secret, but the sporty proportions and design language strongly suggest this is the replacement fans have been waiting for.
Unlike many new electric cars, which often take the form of tall crossovers, this new model maintains a low-slung, sweeping fastback profile. Its roofline is sleek, though maybe a bit taller than the original Stinger, resembling the fashionable coupe-like SUVs seen today.
The most shocking design element is how wide the vehicle appears. The flanks bulge out significantly, giving it the imposing look of a car fitted with a widebody kit. It brings to mind the bold, aggressive aesthetics of rally or racing cars that have custom, bolt-on fender flares blended smoothly into the bodywork. The video highlights how far these fenders jut out, creating a truly broad and stable stance that hints at serious grip and performance potential.
Another striking detail is the DRLs sitting directly on top of the car's hood. They appear to stretch far back, extending well past the windshield. This creates an extremely long, aggressive light element that makes other, already unique EV lighting setups look almost ordinary by comparison. Kia is keeping tight-lipped about the concept, only offering cryptic messages like, "A new future is on the horizon" and "our vision takes shape soon" - a clever way to build anticipation.
When we look at the expected technology underpinning this concept, the platform details confirm its high-performance mission. Analysts suggest this new fastback will be the Kia counterpart to the highly regarded Hyundai Ioniq 6. This means it will use the advanced version of the E-GMP platform. This architecture features an 800V system, which allows for incredibly fast charging times, and it will be a rear-wheel-drive setup, making the EV inherently "drift-ready," an important detail for a car that wants to recapture the Stinger's sporty spirit.
The current available names - EV7 and EV8 - suggest it will be positioned high in Kia's growing portfolio. The top-tier GT version is expected to deliver over 600 horsepower and will likely include simulated combustion powertrain features, giving drivers a sound and feel that mimics a traditional gasoline engine.
The mysterious concept may make its official debut much sooner than expected. Kia plans to attend next month's Brussels Motor Show, where it will unveil the EV2 and hot GT versions of the EV3, EV4, and EV5. It would make perfect sense for this dramatic Stinger successor study to appear alongside its siblings.
