Maserati's first ever EV is the Grecale Folgore midsize SUV

Ivan, 22 March 2022

Maserati just unveiled its first-ever EV - the Grecale Folgore luxury midsize SUV. It will be the all-electric version of the gas-powered Maserati Grecale.

Some of the differences include the Folgore badge on the driver side, the partially-closed off grille, the aero-styled wheels, the copper accents, and the distinctive color. Maserati says it's inspired by the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao.

The Maserati Grecale will be based on an evolution of the Giorgio platform, which underpins Stellantis' other offerings like the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia. The EV-flavoured Grecale Folgore will have a 105 kWh battery and up to 800Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. The architecture is a 400 volt one.

Maserati hasn't yet disclosed if the Grecale Folgore will be a single-motor vehicle but given its luxury market position, an AWD variant with dual motors is likely.

Maserati hasn't shared the interior of the EV Grecale, but it should be quite similar to the ICE-powered model, pictured below.

The ICE Grecale will arrive in 2023. Meanwhile, the EV-powered Grecale Folgore is expected to arrive sometime in 2023 or 2024 as part of a three-strong EV lineup. Maserati aims to go fully electric by 2030.
