Mazda announces electric EZ-6 sedan and ARATA crossover SUV concept

Today Mazda unveiled two new EV models - the EZ-6 and the ARATA. The EZ-6 is an electric sedan, while the ARATA is a crossover SUV concept, scheduled to debut by the end of 2025.

Mazda EZ-6

The EZ-6's official name is Changan Mazda EZ-6 since it's co-developed with Chongqing Changan Automobile - a Chinese automaker working with Mazda in the country.

The Mazde EZ-6 is likely based on Changan's fully-electric sedan Deepal SL03 (EREV version also available), but it features a different design.

The BEV version has 50:50 weight distribution for better handling and feel, and a battery good for 373 miles on a single charge. There's also going to be a PHEV configuration and this one will be capable of 620 miles range on a full tank. The car will rely on a rear-mounted motor and if the Deepal SL03 is of any indication, the EZ-6 will probably employ a 160 or 190 kW electric motor.

Mazda EZ-6 interior

On the inside the EZ-6 features a 14.6-inch central infotainment screen, an LCD panel in front of the driver for an instrument cluster and zero-gravity seats for the front passengers. There's also a wireless charging pad, a Sony-tuned audio system and support for voice commands inside and outside of the vehicle, which is kind of interesting. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip powers the whole infotainment system.

Mazda ARATA concept

The ARATA, on the other hand, is wrapped in mystery when it comes to specs, but the company shared a couple of images. From what we can see, the ARATA is a close sibling to the CX-5. One could say the same for the EZ-6 and the Mazda 6 too.

The EZ-6 is expected to arrive by the end of this year. Unfortunately, odds are it won't make it outside of China.
