Mercedes-Benz supercharges EQE and EQS for next year, electric G-class come to the US

Mercedes-Benz is bringing a series of exciting updates to its 2025 lineup. The German automaker is adding larger batteries to its popular EQE and EQS sedans and also introducing the electric version of its iconic G-Class SUV to the American market.

The EQE 350+ and EQE 500 will now come with a 96-kilowatt-hour battery, a decent upgrade from the previous 90.6 kWh. This promises a significant boost to the EQE's range, potentially exceeding 330 miles on a single charge. Better yet, the pricing for the 2025 EQE sedan in the US remains unchanged, starting at $74,900 for the EQE 350+ and going up to $106,900 for the EQE AMG, so the increased range adds considerable value.

The EQS sedan also receives a battery upgrade, going from 108 kWh to 118 kWh. Although Mercedes-Benz has not yet released official EPA range figures, estimates suggest the EQS 450+ could achieve an impressive 380 miles on a single charge. Combined with revised regenerative braking software, the EQS might top the range test charts next year. The 2025 EQS sedan will be available with a US starting price of $104,400 for the EQS 450+, reaching $147,550 for the AMG variant.

Perhaps the most anticipated announcement is the arrival of the electric G-class, dubbed the G580 with EQ Technology. This fairly complicated name reflects Mercedes-Benz's decision to move away from the EQ naming convention for its EVs, integrating them seamlessly into the existing model lineup. The G580 with EQ Technology has a 116 kWh battery pack and a quad-motor setup, delivering a combined output of 579 hp and 785 lb-ft of torque. This allows it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in a respectable 4.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 112 mph.

The G580's less than stellar aerodynamics mean its estimated EPA range of under 250 miles falls short of competitors like the Rivian R1S, which offers a dual-motor Max Pack version with an impressive 400 miles of range. Despite this, the G580 offers unique features like a low-range mode and a "tank turn" capability, enabled by its four independent motors. With a starting price of $161,500, the G580 with EQ Technology caters to a niche market of luxury SUV enthusiasts.

Mercedes-Benz is also sweetening the deal for EV buyers with attractive incentives. Customers can choose between a $1,000 credit on their Mercedes Me Charge accounts or a complimentary home wall box. This initiative aims to make the transition to electric mobility smoother and more convenient. The updated EQE and EQS sedans are expected to hit US dealerships in the first half of 2025, while the G580 with EQ Technology will arrive before the end of 2024.
