Why electric cars don't have conventional gearboxes

The overwhelming majority of electric cars nowadays don’t use a gearbox.

I'm a common person and I believe an EV with max speed 150 km/h and 0-100 km/h in 10 seconds is enough for me. No need for a gearbox.
