BMW sold 14,869 EVs in July 2024, while Tesla moved 14,581. This means that BMW sold 308 more EVs - not a huge difference, but just a couple of years back the two companies were miles apart in this segment.

In contrast to BMW's quick rise Tesla experienced a significant slump in sales, with Model Y sales falling 16% while the Model 3 sales slipped 17%.

When it comes to individual model sales, the Model Y remains the top-selling EV in Europe, with a comfortable lead over the second most popular EV - the Volvo EX30, followed by the Volkswagen ID.4.

Some BMW models still made it to the top 10 - the iX1 and the i4, in particular. However, as you can see the list of best-selling vehicles, is mostly comprised of more budget-friendly options. In contrast, BMW is aiming for the premium segment, so seeing the company racking up so many sales is even more impressive.

Another interesting trend is that Europeans still prefer SUVs over sedans and station wagons. SUVs make up 54% of total sales.
