BYD recalls 100k Dolphin and Yuan Plus EVs due to safety hazard

BYD has issued a recall on two of its models due to fire hazard - the Dolphin and the Yuan Plus. The recall affects vehicles sold in China and produced between February 4, 2023 and December 26, 2023 as well as some Yuan Plus units that rolled out of the factory between November 2, 2022 and June 19, 2023. Rhe issue doesn't affect overseas version of the Yuan Plus known as Atto 3.

The recall includes approximately 96,714 vehicles and owners are contacted via email, WeChat and phone calls. BYD has even set up a hotline specifically for the recalls. This is BYD's biggest recall to date and the company clearly intends to handle it well.

BYD identified an issue with the power steering column assembly controller. It interferes with the capacitors, causing small cracks that get bigger over time and can cause a short circuit, overheating or even fire. BYD's service centers are installing additional insulation pads on the controllers, eliminating the fire hazard risk.
