Thanks to the Chinese process of introducing new cars to the market, we now have more details about the new Mazda EZ-60. Ready for a late August launch in China, the new electric SUV from Mazda comes with two powertrain options and a rather distinctive face.

The EZ-60 draws heavily from the Arata Concept vehicle. Its front end features a grille that seems to blend into the bodywork, flanked by split-type LED headlights. A prominent full-width daytime running light strip is giving it a signature look.

The back is dominated by a full-width LED taillight, with the "MAZDA" name just below it. Buyers opting for the fully electric version will find an "EV" badge, while the range-extender model keeps a nearly identical appearance, ensuring both versions look sharp.

The Mazda EZ-60 measures 190.9 inches long, 76.2 inches wide, and stands 63.8 inches tall. Its wheelbase is a generous 114.3 inches. These dimensions place it squarely in the Tesla Model Y category, offering a spacious cabin for five occupants. Owners will have a choice between 19-inch or larger 21-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the Mazda EZ-60 adopts a clean and modern design. The dashboard is dominated by a massive 26.45-inch 5K floating touchscreen. This large display acts as the command center for nearly all infotainment and vehicle settings, reducing the need for physical buttons. Drivers get a dual-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel and a column-mounted drive shifter, freeing up console space. Even the door releases are button-style, adding to the uncluttered feel.

Front passengers get to enjoy "zero-gravity" seats. These come packed with features like ventilation, heating, massage functions, and even speakers built into the headrests. The center console includes wireless phone charging and a clever storage area underneath.

The all-electric Mazda EZ-60 is powered by a single electric motor producing 190 kilowatts, which translates to about 255 horsepower. This motor is fed by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack supplied by CALB. While Mazda hasn't spilled all the beans on the exact driving range for this EV, they promise it will offer competitive performance.

For those who still fret about "range anxiety," Mazda offers an EREV - extended-range electric vehicle version. This model pairs a 1.5-liter gasoline engine (rated at 72 kW) with the same 190 kW electric motor. The EREV's smaller 31.73 kWh LFP battery allows for approximately 99 miles of pure electric driving. Once the battery depletes, the gasoline engine kicks in. It doesn't drive the wheels directly, but acts as a generator, producing electricity to power the motor and extend the vehicle's total range.

The Mazda EZ-60's official pricing is yet to be announced, but the new model is expected to slot into a price range between RMB 150,000 and RMB 300,000 (approximately $20,820 to $41,640). Mazda has already got 20,000 pre-orders for the EZ-60 in China after the company used a rather clever incentive for early reservations: prospective buyers can place a refundable deposit of just RMB 10 yuan (about $1.40). The intriguing part is that the value of this tiny deposit increases daily until the customer takes delivery, with the final, grown amount being deducted from the SUV's purchase price.
