Oppo and Volkswagen enter a licensing partnership for connected vehicles
Oppo and Volkswagen announced they signed a partnership deal, allowing the German automaker to use Oppo's cellular standard-essential patents (SEPs), including those related to 5G connectivity.

Vehicles nowadays are becoming smarter and require stable cellular connections for an increasing number of features to work properly. That's why Volkswagen is making a deal with Oppo. The Chinese tech company ranks eighth globally in terms of 5G patents, holding 62,000 patents. The company also operates in 40 countries and regions.
Interestingly, this is Oppo's first bilateral patent licensing partnership with a vehicle manufacturer.
This seems to align with Volkswagen's long-term commitment to elevate the software experience in its vehicles after falling behind in China.

I still remember that news about LG trying to sell off its smartphone division to Volkswagen. If LG and Volkswagen can get together on board, LG can still be around in the smartphone market today.
