Here's the official name of Ford's next electric truck and how much it will cost

Today, Ford has decided to finally unveil the name of its next electric truck. It will be called Fathom. Ford says it comes from "a deep understanding of the person who would drive it". "Deep", because a fathom is a unit of measurement equal to six feet, used in measuring the depth of water.

Ford says the person who'll buy the Fathom has motivations that "look a little different from the typical truck customer's", so the name "had to do more than sound good", it "had to capture a mindset, shifting the focus from specs to a spirit of adaptability".

The Fathom will be available for pre-order in early 2027 for a starting price of $28,350. It is "projected to have more passenger volume than a Toyota RAV4", and will sport a "large, high-resolution touchscreen", vehicle-to-load, digital key support, as well as a frunk and bed.

It will be "just as comfortable on a workday commute as it is on a weekend adventure". It will be BlueCruise capable, and will ship with Apple Maps built-in. It will support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay too. The Fathom will be a midsize electric truck, and it will be the first model to use Ford's new Universal EV Platform.
