Tesla follows Apple in dropping chargers

Max McDee, 17 April 2022

This year has started with three price rises for Tesla and we are sure that’s not the end of it. As Tesla is getting bigger and bigger, the costs are getting higher and the pursuit of profits is intensifying. The victim - Tesla’s original policy of including charging cables in every new car. Just like mobile phone manufacturers stopped bundling chargers, Tesla now makes you buy the charging cables separately.

First mobile phones and now Tesla will come without charger

In the grand scheme of things it’s not a big deal - after all level 1 cable is $275 and level 2 is $400, but that’s only relevant if you can actually get them as at this very moment they are out of stock. Is it possible to have your new shiny Tesla delivered and have no cables to charge it up? It looks like that’s quite the Easter Egg Elon served us this year.

First mobile phones and now Tesla will come without charger

But it’s not all gloom, according to Tesla the decision was made because not many people were using those cables and instead new Teslas will now come with more plug adaptors. At the moment you don’t have many options - you can install a charging station at home for $495 (plus installation fee), you can search the internet for some used chargers or try your luck with aftermarket items. You are in luck if it’s your second or third Tesla and you have some cables left around. If not - well, your Tesla will look really nice parked outside and it won’t clock any miles so you should get more for it when you decide it’s time to sell it. Making sure you have Superchargers nearby is a very good idea before pressing the “buy now” button.

What do you think - good idea? Is it a big deal or is it something you can live with and should we expect all manufacturers to follow the example? Kia is already there after all.

Ah yes because everyone has Tesla charging cords in surplus right? Bs.

This is a very stupid decision. But those money greedy companies will do everything to shred its customers from skin no matter what. Maybe 1% of uber rich people will doesnt care but for every ordinary customer regardless of phone brand or car ...

As always, everyone is following this useless trend. Apple set the bar for which soo many companies trolled at first including Samsung and afterwards everyone adopted it. And the latest Donkey to follow it is Mr. Musk.
