Munro unveils production version of its Series-M electric 4x4 truck

Munro Vehicles, known for its recent attention-grabbing Mountain Rescue 4x4, is once again in the spotlight. This time, it's for a more refined EV utility ride named the Series-M.

The Series-M has left behind the boxy front that marked its pre-production model, the MK_1. Led by design maestro Ross Compton, the team reshaped and streamlined its face, featuring a new headlights layout and pronounced fender arches. The new design isn't just about the looks, though - it enhances forward visibility, and, importantly, cooling.

The sides of this EV have undergone notable changes too. They now feature contrast rear fender arches that align with the front ones and have a focus on body components designed for easy replacement. But the most eye-catching feature? The "exoskeleton" – a honeycomb-like structure that envelops the rear of the Utility model's top. It's purpose-built for mounting tools and accessories, which makes you think of off-road necessities.

Munro's vision for the Series-M extends to industrial applications, covering sectors like mining, defense, and construction. One does wonder, however, why the first Mountain Rescue edition wasn't based on this model. For the Truck version enthusiasts, there's no exoskeleton – but fret not, you get a pickup bed that you can fill up with all the tools you can imagine.

The company has incorporated a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery that promises more durability and longevity. This 85-kWh battery pack ensures 200 miles of range, and even better, it charges up to 80% in a mere 30 minutes when connected to a 130 kW DC source.

The Series-M comes in two variants: The M170 and the M280. The base model, M170, offers a 170 kW electric motor, a bit of a step-down from the MK_1. Meanwhile, the M280 maintains its powerful 280 kW electric motor. Both versions come with a permanent mechanical 4WD, a two-speed transfer case, a locking center differential, and optional locking front and rear diffs. Safety and comfort have also been improved, with features like ABS, airbags, traction control, and adjustable seats.

The Series-M, just like the original MK_1, uses scavenged waste heat from the drivetrain to warm the cabin. Paired with improved soundproofing, the Series-M promises a comfy ride, whether you're on city roads or the roughest terrains out there.

If you're thinking of investing in Munro, the company is launching an equity crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs to get these beauties into production. It's looking at piloting deliveries for early adopters in 2023 and ramping up for mass deliveries in 2024 and 2025. If all goes as planned, by 2027, Munro envisions manufacturing as many as 2,500 vehicles annually.
