Lucid's electric pickup truck is a potential Tesla Cybertruck rival

Lucid Motors, the California-based electric vehicle manufacturer known for its stunning designs and impressive tech, might be taking on Tesla Cybertruck with a pickup truck of its own. While details are scarce, a recent sighting of a clay model has sparked speculation about Lucid's plans for the future.

The full-size clay model, photos of which were shared on the Lucid Forum, exhibits design elements reminiscent of the company's Air and Gravity models. The truck features minimalist headlights, a sleek front bumper, plastic body cladding, and streamlined bodywork. The rakish windscreen seamlessly connects to a glass roof via a black band, giving the truck a distinct look. Additionally, it sports a traditional six-foot bed, providing practicality alongside its futuristic design.

Lucid Motors has been tight-lipped about this mysterious pickup, but previous presentations suggest that it's part of the company's ambitious plan to offer a diverse range of EVs by 2030. This lineup includes a coupe, a pickup, as well as "premium" sedans and SUVs. While there's speculation that one of these models could arrive as early as 2025, it's essential to note that the production of the Gravity SUV is scheduled to start in late 2024 and it will keep the company very busy.

When this Lucid pickup eventually hits the market, it will face stiff competition from other EV manufacturers. The Rivian R1T and F-150 Lightning are already established players, and the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra EV and Ram 1500 REV are also vying for a piece of the electric pickup market. Let’s not forget about the Cybertruck which is going public this coming week and is bound to leave its mark on the market.

The sight of the Lucid electric pickup model raises questions about its authenticity. On one hand, it shares visual similarities with the Lucid Air sedan and the teasers of the new Gravity SUV. The design is sleek and distinct, showcasing Lucid's unique design language in a truck that feels innovative. However, it's crucial to remember that this is merely a clay model, far from being a production-ready show car.

A zoomed-out photo showing the pickup alongside the Gravity SUV and a previous-generation Range Rover suggests that this might be a design study or an internal project inadvertently revealed. While it's tempting to speculate about a real Lucid pickup, the company has not officially confirmed its existence.

Nevertheless, the idea of a Lucid pickup is intriguing. While the Air sedan offers impressive range and technology, it faces challenges in a market dominated by SUVs, and its price tag may deter some buyers. A Lucid pickup could open doors to a new segment of consumers and potentially breathe new life into the company.

Frunks are cool, but pickups don't really have room for a large frunk

This is a good looking concept. I personally would prefer the truck have the front style of the vehicle next to it. I dont understand why a vehicle with no "ice" motor needs a hood
