Volkswagen unveils the ID.7 Tourer, its first all-electric estate

The ID.7 sedan now has a touring sibling, in the form of the ID.7 Tourer, which was just unveiled by Volkswagen today. This is the first all-electric VW estate, and one of the first in the upper mid-sized class in Europe.

The main new thing here is the space in the rear, of course. The ID.7 Tourer has 21.4 ft³ of boot space, which goes all the way up to 60.5 ft³ with the rear seats folded. Interestingly, the ID.7 Tourer has the exact same dimensions as the ID.7 sedan - it's 195.3 inches long, 73.3 inches wide, and 60.5 inches tall, with a 117 inches wheelbase. The Tourer just differs in how far the roof line extends to the rear between the C and D pillars.

The car will be offered with two battery sizes, and the 86kWh bigger one will get a WLTP-estimated range of up to 426 miles while being able to charge at up to 200 kW DC, going from 10% to 80% in "less than 30 minutes", VW says.

Inside you get a standard AR head-up display, which even integrates active navigation from your phone via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. There's also ChatGPT, an optional panoramic roof with smart glass that can be made transparent or opaque, a 15-inch center touchscreen, as well as optional ergoActive seats with pressure point massage and automatic air conditioning.

"Europe-wide pre-sales" will start before the end of March, VW promises, but pricing hasn't been revealed so far. The ID.7 Tourer will be made in Emden, Germany at the same plant that also produces the ID.7 and ID.4.

These are all the details VW has outed for now, but it definitely feels like the ID.7 Tourer will share both its batteries and its drivetrain with the ID.7.

Thus, expect the entry-level battery to be 77kWh, and a single rear-mounted motor producing 210 kW (286 hp) of power, with a top speed limited to 112 mph.
