2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV and Bolt EUV get $6,000 cheaper

Vlad, 01 June 2022

We've gotten used to EV makers hiking prices left and right recently, in what seems like a never ending game of one-upmanship. Chevrolet, however, has other ideas, and so it shockingly revealed a price cut today.

This applies to both the 2023 Bolt EV and the 2023 Bolt EUV, which are approximately $6,000 cheaper than the 2022 models. The 2023 Bolt EV in the 1LT trim starts at $26,595, down from $32,495. In the 2LT trim, you can buy one for $29,795, down from $35,695.

The 2023 Bolt EUV is starting at $28,195 with the LT trim, which used to cost $34,495. The 2023 Bolt EUV in the Premium trim goes for $32,695, down from $38,995.

All of the prices quoted above include the $995 delivery fee. Orders for these 2023 models will start in July.

Commenting on the price cuts, a GM spokesperson said "this change reflects our ongoing desire to make sure Bolt EV/EUV are competitive in the marketplace", adding that "affordability has always been a priority for these vehicles".

That's definitely a breath of fresh air in this day and age when we're surrounded by price increases, not price drops. As you've surely noticed, all of the Bolt EV/EUV trims are now cheaper by around $6,000, which is quite a significant amount given that these were amongst the most affordable EVs in the US market to begin with.

On the flip side, GM has a competitive disadvantage when it comes to tax credits, which only apply for the first 200,000 EVs sold by a manufacturer in the US. GM reached that threshold back in 2019, and since then its vehicles are no longer eligible for the $7,500 tax credit, but a lot of their competitors are.

Chevrolet has recently introduced a new Redline Edition for the Bolt EUV with a lot of red accents everywhere, probably in the hope of making it more sporty-looking and thus more appealing to prospective customers.
