The new Tesla Model 3 Performance is finally official with 510hp

Tesla's initial Model 3 refresh from last year (which made it to North America in January) didn't include the Performance version, but now the new Model 3 Performance has finally been unveiled, following weeks of leaks and rumors. Despite what some of those claimed, it's still called Model 3 Performance, not Model 3 Ludicrous or anything crazy like that.

It comes with 510 hp and 547 lb-ft of peak torque, a top speed of 163 mph and an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph of 2.9 seconds. Estimated EPA range is 296 miles, while in the WLTP cycle it's 328 miles. Compared to the previous Model 3 Performance the new drive unit can deliver 22% more continuous power, 32% more peak power, and 16% improved peak torque. And all of this is apparently achieved with lower total energy consumption.

It gets a "performance-tuned chassis" with bespoke hardware for improved stiffness and a higher performance baseline. At the same time, you also get better comfort, lower rolling resistance, and increased range.

The car has 20" wheels with Pirelli tires that have better traction out of corners thus limiting traction control interventions. It also has a new adaptive damping system which takes into account driver and road inputs in real time to optimize the ride and handling, for improved comfort.

The more aerodynamic exterior design reduces drag and improves front-to-rear lift balance compared to the previous Model 3 Performance, and the new sport seats come with much better lateral support for cornering and dynamic driving.

The new Model 3 Performance is already available to order, starting at $52,990 in the US. Interestingly, it looks like it qualifies for the $7,500 federal tax credit under the Inflation Reduction Act, so if you're eligible for that the starting price actually drops to $45,490.

In the UK, it starts at £59,990, while in the EU it's priced from €56,990 before any incentives and subsidies. The delivery timeframe if you order one now is May to June for all of the aforementioned regions.
