No, it’s not Aston Martin - it’s Genesis X Speedium Coupe
If you squint your eyes a bit and tilt your head a bit you may think you’re looking at the back of a refreshed Aston Martin Vantage V12. But you’d be mistaken because this is the latest result of hard work from designers at Genesis and it’s called X Speedium Coupe.
Before you get too excited thinking this is the next EV from Genesis - it isn’t, sorry. Genesis calls it a “freestyle design exercise” and it clearly is a continuation of the Genesis X Concept. According to Luc Donckerwolke, Genesis Chief Creative Officer, this “exercise” helps with design processes as they explore ideas for future EVs. And make us drool in the process…
As much thought went into drawing it as into the naming of it - the official explanation reads:
“The name encapsulates Genesis’s belief that the emotional value of driving will remain strong in the era of electrification.”
Even the color is not just any green, oh no - it takes its name from trees surrounding a race track in South Korea and now that green is called Inje Green.
PR talk aside - it's one heck of a beautiful design, there’s no other way to put it. It’s drop dead gorgeous, looking at it from the side you can almost see the silhouette of Jensen Interceptor, that hunched back over the rear wheels, squatted and ready to shoot. Yes the rear is clearly influenced by Aston Martin but since when is that a bad thing? Thankfully designers from Genesis must have been listening to feedback from customers and decided to scale down the “V” on the front a bit, now it blends in and accentuates the design at the same time, rather than looking like it’s trying to eat the whole world.
The wheels are intricate with bright calipers showing through suggesting serious stopping power. Serious stopping power would only be needed to counter serious power under the hood - oh how we wish this was a real thing coming to the nearest Genesis showroom. There’s hope, Genesis has got a long track of bringing designs to the market that we wouldn’t call mainstream, they are brave and they need to stand out to compete. We can only wait and see.
