Porsche K1 - pioneering leap forward in electric vehicle design

At Porsche, innovation never sleeps. Born from a history of pushing boundaries, the marque is rumored to be developing the K1, an exciting, high-end electric vehicle that is set to usher in a new era of design and performance. While the second electric Porsche, the Macan EV, gets delayed until at least 2024 mainly due to the software issues plaguing Volkswagen Group, the company engineers aren’t sitting around and twirling their thumbs. Porsche's electric vehicle ambitions took a major leap forward around 2020 when the development of the K1 reportedly began. This new electric SUV is larger than the future electric Cayenne but according to insiders, it looks nothing like any Porsche before.

What has also sparked interest among EV enthusiasts is the platform the K1 is built upon. It's the SSP Sport platform, an offshoot of the Volkswagen Group's Scalable Systems Platform. This platform provides a flexible base that allows for the development of different types of vehicles while ensuring they're efficient, scalable, and adaptable to future trends and technologies.

If all this sounds familiar, it's because Porsche has mentioned this plan before. Last year, the automaker hinted at its ambitious project, the new electric flagship that’s unlike any other vehicle out there. We get a pretty good idea of what it may look like just by looking at clues given by those close to the project. An electric sedan that’s partially a crossover, but with three rows of seats. Since it’ll be based on the new SSP platform, we would bet our lunch that we are looking at Audi Activesphere but with Porsche badges.

Indeed, Porsche is stepping into a future where sustainability and luxury are no longer at odds. The three-row seating feature in the K1 makes it a practical choice for families and groups who need more space but are unwilling to compromise on the thrilling Porsche driving experience.
