Tesla Model Y gets cheaper across Europe

Vlad, 17 January 2024

Tesla has just made the best selling EV in both Germany and France cheaper than it used to be. We're talking about the Model Y, which most Germans seem to prefer out of the company's roster, and prefer it over VW's offerings even. Same story for the French, it's not a Renault or Citroen model taking the cake, it's the Tesla Model Y.

You can now buy one in Germany with an up to 8.1% price reduction. This comes in response to the German government abruptly ending EV subsidies last month. The maximum discount can be taken advantage of if you opt for the Model Y Long Range, which is now $5,500 cheaper starting at $55,470.

The entry level version simply called Model Y got a 4.2% or $2,100 price cut and is now $47,700, while the top tier Model Y Performance got $5,500 cheaper just like the Long Range, and now starts at $62,130 but since the starting price was higher this only amounts to about 8% less.

Over in France, meanwhile, the Model Y price cuts go up to 6.7%, while in the Netherlands you can purchase one for 7.7% less than before, and in Norway you'll pay up to 7.1% less.

Aside from subsidies dropping in some markets, this could also be a response to BYD's move from last week, when it cut the prices of some of its EVs by as much as 15% in Germany. This trend of making new EVs cheaper is definitely good news for buyers, so here's hoping it continues.
