Tesla's Actually Smart Summon arrives in Europe with limitations
Tesla finally launched Actually Smart Summon (the name having been chosen on purpose by Elon Musk in order to spell out ASS) in the US in September, and the feature now seems to have made its way to Europe, as part of the 2024.44.3 software update.
However, there's a catch. Tesla currently limits the total summon distance in Europe to 591 inches to 787 inches of travel. This is weird since the latest revision of UNECE R79, the regulation that governs Europe's autonomy laws, permits a total travel distance of 3,937 inches. Perhaps Tesla wants to make extra sure it doesn't break any rules.

Anyway, the regulation also requires that the driver has to be within 236 inches of the vehicle being summoned at all times. All of these limitations do make Actually Smart Summon not actually that smart, but it is a start. Tesla has been working behind the scenes to get R79 updated or repealed, in order to allow for further autonomy, but it has been primarily focused on getting FSD approved. Maybe a repeal of the regulation could be coming, in which case it will help ASS as well.
