Long-wheelbase US version of VW ID.Buzz will debut in June

Max McDee, 08 March 2023

The US customers are finally about to get their own version of the VW ID.Buzz. While the customers in Europe have been enjoying the EV for a few months now, the US version has only recently been spotted during its winter testing. Why the delay in US market debut? Because North America is getting a completely different version.

Volkswagen is celebrating the history of the original microbus with the best Type 2 Transporter examples taking part in the Amelia Concours d’Elegance. While the event itself was very important with many excellent vehicles on display, it was the official VW press release that caught our eye. VW mentions that the European version of the ID.Buzz is on display to preview the premiere of the American version in June in California.

It doesn’t get more official than that. We know the US ID.Buzz is 25cm longer comes with three rows of seats as standard. The middle seats will be swivelling just as in the original VW Caravelle. 10 inches of extra legroom is a lot and it's a shame that this version will be available only in the US.

The question still remains which powertrains will be available in the US. The dual-motor version is a given but is it going to be the Pro 4Motion version with 265hp or will it be the GTX version with 340hp that we have in Europe?

Good news for the commercial vehicle buyers is that the US version of ID.Buzz will be available as well in Cargo trim, offering quite a bit more room. Only three months left to wait for the official unveiling and we can be certain, more details about the long-wheelbase VW ID.Buzz will surface soon enough.
