Toyota is adding support for Apple's digital car key feature
Toyota vehicles will support Apple's Car Keys feature soon. This feature is said to now be live on Apple's backend, although Toyota hasn't made an official announcement about it yet. Thus, it's unclear when it will actually become available to Toyota car owners.
Toyota has its own Digital Key feature, that's part of the Remote Connect package. This lets you use your smartphone as a key to access and drive your car. But of course it doesn't hurt to also have support for Apple's version of this feature.
It stores a digital version of your car key in Apple Wallet and you can unlock your car with your iPhone or Apple Watch. You can choose to use Face ID for extra security but there's also an express mode that foregoes that to make things faster.
Apple's Car Keys feature is already supported on BMW, Genesis, Kia, Hyundai, Lotus, Mercedes, and Volvo cars, and Apple announced it would be expanding support to Audi, Acura, Porsche, GMC, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Rivian, Smart, Lucid, Tata, Hongqi, WEY, Chery, and Voyah vehicles back in June. Toyota wasn't on the list, so it's a nice surprise.
