Volvo contemplates electric sedan and wagon for the US market

Vlad, 16 July 2026

According to a new report, Volvo is currently "studying" the idea to launch a sedan and station wagon in the US - they could be hitting showrooms in 2028. They will both be electric and they are allegedly already in development for the European market. So adapting them for the US market should be relatively easy.

The models will carry 60 or 70 series branding and will be built in Europe. The wagon might even get a rugged Cross Country variant. Both cars will be using Volvo's 800V SPA3 architecture, which made its debut with the EX60.

The cars would be offered in the US with prices starting at about $50,000 to $53,000. Volvo only expects to sell about 10,000 units each year in the US.

This news comes only a few months after Volvo stopped selling sedans and wagons in the US, focusing entirely on SUVs and crossovers. Analysts think its reentry into these market segments may be rather successful since the new cars could "attract buyers eager to stand out from the sea of SUVs", allowing Volvo to carve out a niche as the "counter-culture cool" brand.
