Xiaomi asks suppliers to pick up pace, amidst mounting SU7 orders
Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is rapidly ramping up the production of its inaugural electric vehicle, the SU7. Facing higher than anticipated demand Xiaomi is pushing suppliers to double its production target and ensure customers get behind the wheel of the SU7 sooner rather than later.
Early reports suggested production would max out at 6,000 SU7s monthly, but the company is adjusting its strategy now. Xiaomi's original plan was likely based on more cautious market projections, but those early expectations have already been shattered.
With over 50,000 orders coming in fast, Xiaomi's original manufacturing targets now seem quaint in retrospect. The production target is 10,000 vehicles per month, as Xiaomi is prepared to invest heavily to gain a strong foothold.
Available in three trim levels, the SU7 combines a sleek design with impressive specs at very aggressive prices. The base SU7 offers a range of over 415 miles, while the beefier versions stretch even further on a single charge. Performance-wise, the SU7 Max sprints from 0 to 62 mph in less than four seconds.
With deliveries already underway for the special Founders Edition SU7 and standard models starting later this month, more drivers will soon discover if the Xiaomi EV hype is warranted.
