Xiaomi SU7 Max interior, design, and features review

What is it?
This is the Xiaomi SU7 Max, the middle option in Xiaomi's SU7 lineup, just below the Ultra and above the rear wheel driven SU7 Pro.

There aren't many differences between the Ultra and Max - the Max has a bigger 101 kWh battery (93.7 kWh on the Ultra), while the Ultra is a bit longer - 199.6 inches vs 196.7 inches - and a whole lot more powerful - AWD 1138 kW (1548 hp) and 1770 Nm (1305 lb-ft) vs the Max's AWD 495 kW (673 hp) and 838 Nm (618 lb-ft).
It's no Ultra, but the Xiaomi SU7 Max is still a mightily potent thing. Not many production cars strut around with more than 600 hp.

The SU7 Max has been on sale in Xiaomi's home market but is making yearly trips to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. We also took a trip to China to see the SU7 Max back in the summer.

Who is it for?
The Xiaomi SU7 Max is for the high-level executive who loves to drive spiritedly. The car marries quality and refinement with supercar-rivaling performance.
Xiaomi describes it as a C-class luxury technology sedan with proportions that meet the golden ratio. We love the bit about the car's low-lying stance, which delivers full impact.

Outside of the Audi e-tron GT Performance, there are hardly sedans in its segment that can challenge the SU7 Max on power figures. So let's talk about that.

Give me the technical stuff
The Xiaomi SU7 Max is a technological powerhouse. It's even got its performance figures stamped on the car - 21,000 RPM, 495 kW, 838 Nm.

Xiaomi SU7 Max at a glance:
- Dimensions: 196.7 inches x 77.3 inches x 56.7 inches, 118 inches wheelbase.
- Drivetrains available: 101 kWh - AWD 495 kW (673 hp), 618 lb-ft.
- Charging: 490 kW CCS, 10-80% in 19 min.
- Range: AWD - 497 miles, CLTC.
- Weight: up to 4,861 lb
- Trunk: EU: 493 l, 105 l frunk
What's great about it?
For starters, the looks. The SU7 Max is a thing of beauty. Its nose is low-slung and aggressive and makes the car look purposeful and mean.
At the back, the SU7 is almost fastback-like with its sloping roof. We love the rear lights, which converge in a full-width light bar. The rear bumper's aero bits lend the car a sporty aesthetic, as does the rear diffuser.
There are noticeable aero bits on the side as well, and we love the 20-inch rims with the 265 section Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires. Top marks all around!

The SU7 Max is also very practical with a combined 498l of cargo space - 105l upfront and 493l in the back.
Another thing Xiaomi got right, and it's not talked about enough in cars these days, is the driving position. You can get nice and low in the SU7 Max, and because it's not a tall SUV, you feel more planted in the car and more in control. You can, of course, raise the seat for better visibility.
The steering wheel is a good balance of size and position. It's also chunky but in a good way. The bottom is slightly squared off - another nod to sportiness which we like!

Then there are the seats themselves. Clad in perforated leather and bolstered in all the right places, the Xiaomi SU7 Max is a classy cabin to spend time in.
You also don't feel like the floor is too raised up and the seats are angled slightly upward to keep your feet elevated when you're sitting. It's obvious Xiaomi gave the design a lot of thought.
Back to the steering wheel for a second - it has physical buttons for different controls - we love physical buttons. The Drive selector button in the bottom right corner is spot on too.
Moving downward, we acquaint ourselves with the aircraft-styled buttons for the A/C temperature and fan speed, the active rear spoiler, and the air suspension control. There are also two big cupholders.
The large center console display is high-end and high-quality. Its slim and uniform bezels add a layer of sophistication that you wouldn't get in some other EVs.
It's very roomy in the back of the SU7 Max. The optional rear tablet can be used for entertainment as well as controlling functions of the car, like the air conditioning.
The glass roof doesn't take away head space and adds a sense of airiness to the rear.
What's not that good?
You can't get the Xiaomi SU7 Max outside of China. That pretty much sums up all that's wrong with the car, #bitter.
Which version to get?
We would absolutely save CNY 45,000 and get the SU7 Pro instead of the Max (and the Ultra). The SU7 Pro is all the car you can ever need - it has a 94.3 kWh battery with a CLTC range of 830 km. It's rear-wheel drive 220 kW (299 hp) motor is more than sufficient with a 0 mph time of just 5.7 seconds. That's the smart choice.
However, if you need the best of the best - get the SU7 Max. Prices start from CNY 300,000 (€39,000, £33,000, $42,000). That's not a lot of money really, for a whopping powertrain and luxury package. The SU7 Ultra is a bit too expensive - RMB 530,000 (€69,000, £57,000, $73,000) - despite its absolute brilliance on paper.

Xiaomi is expected to start selling EVs globally from 2027 and we're imploring it to. We'd love to get a SU7 on our roads!
