Live photos: Xiaomi SU7 lands in Europe

Ivan, 26 February 2024

Xiaomi unveiled its first-ever EV, the SU7 to the European public at the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona.

The tech giant decided to present its impressive EV at one of the biggest tech events of the year, instead of the Geneva Motor Show, which coincidentally kicks off today.

We got close to the SU7 Max on the MWC floor and ogle the lovely, smart-looking thing in its hero Gulf Blue color. Xiaomi had a perimeter set up around the car, though, it's like they don't trust media that much.

Xiaomi President Lu Weibing accompanied the presentation with a post on Weibo, asking fans if the SU7 is cool. He later hinted that Xiaomi will target around 20 million unit sales, based on the premium smartphone sales the company has in China. He reiterated the company's $10 billion commitment in the development of its EV business.

In his interview, Weibing said that Xiaomi aims to start mass shipments of the SU7 in the second quarter of this year.

The Xiaomi SU7 on show at the MWC is the Max model with all-wheel drive and 664 bhp (495 kW) of power. The EV has a 101 kWh battery pack and an 800V architecture. CLTC range is an impressive 497 miles and the SU7 Max can jump to 100km/h in just 2.8s.

The nearly 5-meter-long car is a celebration of curves. There's not a single sharp corner to be found and the body is a circus of reflected fluorescent lights.

The front and rear bumpers are sporty with a low aero design and air diffusers. The roofline slopes in a solid curve toward a gentle ducktail spoiler that's integrated into the rear boot. You could almost call the SU7 a fastback. Impressively, the SU7 has a drag coefficient of just 0.195Cd - the lowest amongst production vehicles.

There are a series of active air tunnels from the front bumper all along the side of the car and at the rear, to help with brakes colling at speed.

All we need now is the price and shipping date for European customers. Odds are it will take a good while, though, if it happens at all.
