You can park the new BMW i7 with an app
The new BMW i7 and 7 series will both be able to drive autonomously for up to 200 meters with the help of Reversing Assistant Professional, Parking Assistant Professional and Remote Maneuver Assistant - all neatly combined into the BMW app. And it will be possible to control the car from the outside - look Mom, no hands!
The new Parking Assistant will upgrade the length of the pre-recorded path that the car can follow from 50 to 200 meters. It will be possible to control it from the outside of the vehicle within 6 meters from it (20 feet) which will be really appreciated in tight parking spaces like underground garages. It will be possible to pre-record a route for the car to follow and then watch it pull out of the garage and stop right by the front door as long as the route is not longer than 200 meters. Owners of huge mansions with 500 meter driveways may struggle but the rest of us will enjoy watching shocked neighbors early in the morning.
The car can remember 10 different paths, it can store 4 paths in the same location and it will happily help you find free parking space suitable for it as well as asking you whether to park front or rear first - very useful when you have a boot full of shopping.
The latest Reversing Assistant is even smarter. Combined with the Parking Assistant it will not only find the parking space but it will make sure that the car is parked perfectly between two other vehicles regardless of how they are parked. It will make sure you have enough room to open the door and exit the car. The new system will be able to park the car between two cars, two objects or even lines, something it was unable to do in its last iteration. It’s all neatly displayed in the new BMW app where you will have an option to choose the parking spot and control your car.
Three Professional Assistants to help you park your car. Three separate bits of software to make sure parking is no longer a chore but a child’s play. The new BMW 7 and i7 will be officially announced on 20 April and we can’t wait for the first tests. Flurry of YouTube videos of new BMW navigating obstacle courses will surely follow.
