Audi reveals Urbansphere car concept designed with passenger comfort in mind
Designed from the inside out, Audi's new concept urbansphere EV puts passenger comfort above all else. Audi says the car has been designed for the busy streets of Chinese megacities but the vehicle can easily find a home in other densely-populated urban areas, hence the name "urbansphere".
The interior is fairly simplistic with a total of four seats in two rows. The middle corridor of the car is there to enhance the spatial experience. The car features an impressive 3.4 m wheelbase, it's 2.01 m wide and 1.78 m high. Audi removed the B-pillar and has counter-hinged the doors.
The seats themselves offer a 60-degree incline, plenty of legroom and can even swivel. The passenger seats, of course. Audi calls the whole interior "lounge on wheels". There's a transparent OLED screen that pivots vertically from the roof for the back-seat passengers to enjoy. The roof is panoramic and is almost entirely made of glass.
On the outside, we see a typical Audi design with distinctive headlights but the taillights take a slightly different approach.
The front grille and the space between the taillights feature LED lights that can change colors. Perhaps some of them might be used for turning signals.
Now when it comes to drivetrain specs, Audi cites 295 kW and 690 Nm peak output and a 120 kWh battery. The huge battery takes pretty much all of the floor space between the two wheel axles and can charge from 5 to 80% in less than 25 minutes. The whole battery is enough to last 750 km (according to the WLPT standard) and a ten-minute charge gives you back 300 km of range.
Autonomy and other smart features are not neglected. Audi believes that by the time this car is released, it will be able to integrate various other services and ultimately taking care of things such as reservations, bookings, self-parking and self-charging.
Audi didn't give any time frames in which to expect a final, market-ready product but by the looks of it, it's one ambitious project, so we wouldn't hold our breath. In the meantime, you can watch the full unveiling down below.
