Cadillac Optiq AWD revealed by MIIT filing
On August 14th, China’s authorities gave us a peek into what SAIC-GM, a collaboration between China's SAIC Motor and America's General Motors, has in store for Cadillac. The upcoming Cadillac Optiq was fully revealed in the MIIT filing together with some of its specifications. Let’s just say, the smaller electric Cadillac is looking rather… electric.
The new and spruced-up AWD version has not one, but two motors in its powertrain. This two-motor configuration boasts a 143 kW or 192-horsepower electric motor up front, with its little sibling, a 68 kW or 91-horsepower motor, taking up the rear. Combine these two, and we're looking at a total output of 283 horsepower. Sounds familiar?
Well, you're not wrong. The Buick Electra E5 Avenir, with its all-wheel-drive standard, sports the same powertrain. It's like seeing two celebrities wear the same dress on the red carpet; someone wore it better, but we’re not sure who yet. And while we're talking numbers, the torque rating for this electric maven stands at a whopping 343 lb-ft.
The new images leave nothing hidden - here we have the 2024 Optiq AWD in Sport trim level, drenched in blue. The new front grille, adorned with a diamond-cut triangular pattern, is quite the dazzler. Not to forget its unique lighting signature, giving its larger sibling, the Cadillac Lyriq Sport, a run for its money. Of course, the Optiq decided to stay classy with a chrome upper bar, because why go all black when you can shine?
Now, for those eagerly waiting to get their hands on the steering wheel, there's a tiny bit of patience required. The Optiq is set to make its grand debut in China later this year. Americans might have to wait a tad longer. If the rumors are true, Cadillac's shiny new toy will grace U.S. roads in 2024.
