The Mini EV by SAIC-GM-Wuling (also known as SGMW) is one of China's best selling EVs - and not to be confused with Mini the car brand owned by BMW. The Chinese Mini EV is due for a new version soon, according to a new report from inside the country.

Allegedly, the convertible version of the Mini EV, which has been expected for a while now, will finally launch this August.

It is said to become available in two variants, one with 200 km (124 miles) of range, and the other with 300 km (186 miles) of range. It's going to be priced between CNY 40,000 ($5,920) and CNY 60,000 ($8,880). The Mini EV Cabrio is rumored to come with a single motor developing a maximum power of 30 kW, allowing for a top speed of 100 km/h (62 mph).

SGMW sold 46,249 Mini EV units in June, and its overall "new energy vehicle" (NEV) sales, which include all-electrics as well as hybrids, reached 49,450 units the same month. So you can see how important the Mini EV is to the company, making up most of its NEV sales. The Cabrio model should help it continue to be very successful.
