Drako Dragon is an SUV faster than Tesla S Plaid

Max McDee, 01 July 2022

Be prepared to have your senses obliterated by the oncoming barrage of numbers. Draco Motors is not a new company, it gave us the Drako GTE back in 2019 - well before we saw the first Tesla S Plaid. Sure, the two are not aimed at the same customer but when it comes to numbers, Draco GTE was the fastest and most powerful production (albeit small volume) EV for quite some time.

We haven’t heard much of it because at $1.25 million a piece, the company didn’t need much publicity and people who spend that kind of money on the car don’t post much on YouTube.

Drako GTE had 900kW of power Drako GTE had 900kW of power

The Drako GTE had 900kW (1,200 hp) power coming from 4 electric motors, it had a 90kWh battery pack and went onto a top speed of 206 mph (331 kph). Caution was advised at all times. But that clearly wasn’t enough for the company founders, Drako GTE sold out its run of 25 units and the company needed a worthy replacement.

Enter Drako Dragon - a 2,000hp (1,491kW) electric hyper SUV. Designed by Italian GranStudio who is responsible among many of its creations, for Lightyear One, Dallara Stradale and Scuderia Cameron Glickenhouse SCG003 - yes, it is a car with the longest name ever.

Draco Dragon is a 5-seat SUV and it has plenty of luggage space for all the passengers. Just as the GTE, it is built using the latest composite manufacturing technology - in plain English it means a lot of carbon fiber. It is promoted as a luxury vehicle with what the company calls the best and most sumptuous European leather.

The numbers are hard to comprehend - 2,000hp of power and it takes 1.9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60mph. No “run up” or “roll out” required. Top speed over 200mph. Quarter mile takes 9.0 seconds. You can run a sub 10 seconds quarter mile while enjoying the comfort of the most sumptuous European leather.

2,000hp in a 5-seater SUV - Koenigsegg Gemera comes with only 1,700hp and until now it was the most powerful 4-seater out there. Gemera starts at €1.7 million which makes it the most expensive family car in the world. Draco Dragon comes with a promise to be competitively priced when compared to other super-SUVs. What does it mean? The company aims at Lamborghini customers with Urus starting at $220,000. Will Drako Dragon be cheaper?

No way, it will be marketed as a step up from Lamborghinis and Ferraris and it will command a premium, but in exchange it’ll offer unmatched performance.

Let’s talk about the doors now - we have to. Draco Dragon is coming with gullwing doors. Unlike Tesla’s double hinged affair, these are straight forward, single hinge and full length doors that allow easy in and out of the cabin for both front and rear passengers. It’s possible thanks to the insanely rigid structure of the carbon fiber shell and will make parking in tight spaces impossible. It seems Drako Dragon is not aimed at Walmart customers.

All jokes aside - what an amazing feast of design and technology. 2,000hp family car that you can take on a camping trip, stop over at a local dragstrip and make all the combustion junkies cry. You can take it to the desert and enjoy dune surfing with it and you can frighten the living daylights out of your kids on the way to school. It’s insane, it’s amazing, it’s definitely not what the world needs now and that’s why it’ll be a runaway success. We’ll wait about 15, maybe 20 years for the first examples to hit a second hand market at sensible prices and then - buy a Prius. Because it can be parked at Walmart.

Another scam, they didn't sell any of the fisker cars, not one.

Looks gruesome like a car that everybody would want. Including me.
