Electric Bentley Mulsanne incoming

Adrian Hallmark, CEO of Bentley confirmed that the new, full EV will be built in Crewe, UK. Bentley is investing close to €3 billion in its development and new production facilities, shareholders will be happy to know that all that money comes from Bentley’s own coffers without any outside financing.

The first Bentley EV will be built on a new platform shared with Audi and VW and it will be used in more upcoming Bentley models. The plan is to bring five EV Bentleys in five years - starting in 2025. Yes, it means we’ll have to wait a bit to see the first electric Bentley in the flesh but judging by the designs it’ll be well worth it.

Advantages of the electric propulsion when it comes to luxury cars are indisputable - more room for passengers, less noise and more design freedom. Electric drivetrains are much smaller, they are easier to fit in the design so designers can have more freedom. When it comes to luxury cars, lack of emissions is just a small part of the whole picture, but it's obviously very important for many.

So it seems the new Mulsanne is a clear choice for Bentley since it has already indicated interest in reviving that model, most likely we’ll see it as an ultra luxurious coupe, possibly as a four door sedan but judging by the prototypes and design exercises - whatever Bentley chooses to go with, it will be jaw dropping. And not in the sense of Bentayga.
